For the vast majority of Singaporean students, tuition, assessment books, and pressurizing parents are a reality. This film explores this through the eyes of Yahui. Her mother places great emphasis on academics and her frustration with Yahui with regard to how seriously she is taking her education hinders the development of a deeper relationship. 

Eventually, Yahui becomes a mother herself and she realizes she has just become a chip off the old block.
